DIY Closet Under $100 | Guest Bedroom

DIY Closet Under $100 | Guest Bedroom

Last month, we finally came up with a new theme for our house and renovated our guest bedroom. The first part of the project was the closet. I am sharing with you today, my DIY Closet Under $100.

Read on to see the before and after pictures!

My husband and I were planning to renovate our guest bedroom since we started to move into the house a few years back. What we did back then was to keep everything as is but only paint the walls in a different color and put wallpaper up for an accent wall.

Last month, we finally came up with a new theme for our house as we are planning to have it up on Airbnb in the future. I am going to talk more about our idea on my upcoming post, and show the look of the entire room.

The first area we decided to start the project in this room was the closet. I feel like it was perfect timing as I was on my Instagram as usual, and I saw this picture of a pretty closet that looked like the right style I imagined for our guest bedroom. The style that fits our theme just right. So, I showed my husband the photo, and we both agreed to the look.

What we did, we went to Loews and got a few pieces of wood, closet rod, and some screws, and we were all set to start our DIY project.

These are what we got:

($31) x 2 Pine Boards (3/4-in x 16-in x 8-ft)

($16) x 1 Wood Closet Rod (96-in L x 1.375-in H x 1.375)

($6) x 1 Box of Interior Wood Screws (#8 x 2)

($12) x 1 Quart of White Paint

Total Cost: $96

Here is what we did:

  1. We took off the doors, railings, top flaps, and the old hanger inside the closet.
  2. We painted all sides of the closet white.
  3. We measured and cut the rod into three parts (2 short ones for the support bars, and one long piece for the clothes hangers). Then screwed all parts together before installing in the closet.
  4. We then measured the length of the closet and cut one of the pine boards to length. We took the other pine board and cut it into three equal pieces and screwed them on both ends of the long piece and one in the middle.
  5. Lastly, we fitted the shoe shelf into the closet.

This is the source of my closet inspiration! The photo popped up on my Instagram home feed at the right time when I was thinking about re-doing my guest bedroom.

The image is from @TaraMilkTea account. As I am a fan of her work and have been following her account for a while. This closet shot speaks to me the most about what I was looking for. So I went ahead and re-did the closet.

Here is my Guest Bedroom Closet now.

Take a look around on how I styled everything. My plan is to keep everything simple and neutral.

BEFORE

This is the “BEFORE” photo when we first got the house. Over the years we have changed it up by painting it white but still kept everything the same. Just last month we decided to give it a facelift.

AFTER

This is the final look for what we changed the closet to look like, similar to the inspiration photo. Not exactly the same as we kept the raw wood material as is. I love that the color of the wood matches perfectly with the floor we used.

“Fashion you can buy, but style you possess. The key to style is learning who you are, which takes years. There’s no how-to road map to style. It’s about self expression and, above all, attitude.”

I’m linking some items and some similar ones from my closet for you below.

Focus on what you love | Be Happy

Focus on what you love | Be Happy

The best thing to do when I am feeling down is to focus on what I love. Today, I am sharing a list of what I am currently obsessed over and things that always make me happy when looking or thinking about.

Read on to find out what they are!

Feeling down is normal, but how you deal with it is crucial. Sometimes the down feelings can lead you to stress, and depression and the best thing you can do is to try getting back to your normal self again as soon as possible to avoid being stuck in the cycle of sadness.

If you don’t know how to get out of your sorrowful feelings, today I have a quick tip that you can use to help fix your emotions.

What I recommend you to do is to focus on what you love and things that make you happy.

Start with writing them down in a notebook, or on a piece of paper. It would be a good idea to carry this book with you or have it in your reach whenever you want it.

Jot down all the things that make you happy and then start focusing on each of them. If it is a person, spend more time with them, give them more love and affection. If it is your pets, you can play with them more often, and cuddle with them for comfort. Whatever it is, start focusing on them than you usually do because this will help you to forget about the sad feelings, and you can move on with your day happily again.

“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”

– Mahatma Gandhi

What I Love

The below list is what I love and am focusing on now.

1. My Family

2. My Dogs

3. My Home

4. My Garden

5. Next Travel Destination

6. My Creativity

7. My Work

8. My Health

9. More of Healthy Food

10. My Favorite Shopping Stores

Currently Obsessed Over

Lately, I’ve been obsessed over shells, dried flowers, lights and shadows, Dalmatians, Siberian Huskies, pretty jewelry, terra-cotta vases, abstracts, minimal home style, furniture made with wood, clay or concrete, anything that is in nude and brown shades, fluted design accents, woven bags, and planning my future trip to Europe.

I have put so many products in my shopping cart and planning to get them soon. See below for what I plan to get.

How to feel happy again | Happy in Pink

How to feel happy again | Happy in Pink

Monday blues don’t always have to happen on a Monday. Whenever you feel these feelings of stress, anxiety, sadness, or lack of motivation, you might be on a Monday blues train. But wearing pink could help you cure these symptoms.

How? Read on to find out!

Lately, when I feel down, I wear pink. Because of the color, pink is thought to have a calming effect, and it does make me feel a little uplifted when wearing it.

Pink also represents compassion, nurturing, and love; that is why wearing pink can cheer you up without you knowing it.

When I was younger, I was trying to avoid pink as I thought the color was too girly and I wasn’t that girly. I wanted to show people that I am strong and I didn’t need pink in my closet. Also, I could be happy wearing darker colors. To look back at how I felt then, I can see why I was so stressed out quite often. Maybe I should have worn pink sooner. Oh, well!

Now, I love wearing all shades of pink. See here, here, here, and here.

Pink also could WEAKEN your ENEMY! Say What?

Sports teams sometimes paint the opposing team’s locker room pink to keep the players passive and less energetic.

The Iowa Hawkeyes famously have a pink visiting team locker room at their Kinnick Stadium. The idea for the pink locker room was conceived by Iowa coach Hayden Fry, who had majored in psychology at Baylor University and believed that the all-pink room would mess with the minds of the opposing teams.

See the below video on how pretty their locker room is.

“People who are drawn to pink (or any specific color) tend to have pleasant memories of the color, while those who don’t like it may have negative or unpleasant associations with it.”

 Pink Psychology

In color psychology, pink is a sign of hope. It is a positive color inspiring warm and comforting feelings, a sense that everything will be okay.

Pink is feminine and romantic, affectionate and intimate, thoughtful and caring. It tones down the physical passion of red replacing it with a gentle loving energy.

Studies have confirmed that exposure to large amounts of pink can have a calming effect on the nerves and create physical weakness in people. Violent and aggressive prisoners have been successfully calmed by placing them in a pink room for a specified amount of time. Exposure for too long can have the opposite effect. – Empower-Yourself-with-Color-Psychology.com

3 Inspiration Sources for Flat Lay Photography

3 Inspiration Sources for Flat Lay Photography

Hi love!

Happy Friday! In today’s post I’m going to talk about my 3 sources of inspiration for flat lay photography. #FlatLayFriday

For me personally, it’s so hard sometimes to come up with some fresh flat lay ideas especially when I’m working for my own blog or project. I found it a lot easier when working with brands because they will give me more details and let me know exactly what they want or are looking for.

Since it’s quite hard to get my thoughts put together I found myself ending up in these 3 places I’m about to tell you.

If you are ready, let’s dive into our topic today “3 Inspiration Sources for Flat Lay Photography“.

#1 Source: Pinterest

As of now, you might already knew that Pinterest works like a search engine just like google. But the different between them is that Pinterest is the place where you can find all kinds of beautiful pictures once you search on their search bar.  Instead of the name of the article thats pops up, you will see either the photos that are included in the article or you will see the photo with the topic of the article coming up. It’s a super convenient source for all kinds of topics.

I used to use Pinterest for wedding inspirations, food and interior design. Now I am using Pinterest for everything that you can think of, especially gathering flat lay ideas for new projects.

How I use Pinterest are explained in the below tips:

One:

Using search bar and search words like “Flat Lay“, FlatLay, FlatLay Ideas“, “FlatLay Inspo” and etc.. For this, you will see a lot of flat lay photos popping up.

If you want to be more specific on what you’re looking for, you can put the niche word in front of the word flat lay. For example, travel flatlay, beauty flatlay, fashion flatlay and many more.

You can now search using hashtags as well.

Two:

Follow people who have FlatLay boards. I have one here that you can follow and get some new ideas from.

To search for boards, you have to use the search bar, type in the same keyword “FlatLay” once you press enter, you will see the options of the search types next to the search bar. Now you can then change from “all pins” to “board” or “people”. Then follow the ones that inspired you the most.

Now every time you visit your Pinterest homepage, all of the new pins from people and boards you are following will show up to inspire you.

Three:

Create your own Flat Lay board and start collecting your own pins. This way you will be able to go back and see what types and feels of flat lay photos you like. I even created my own Flat Lay Guide board to collect online article tips from other people.

Pinterest definitely my number one go to source for Flat Lay inspiration.

#2 Source: Books and Magazines

3-Inspiration-Sources-for-Flat-Lay-Photography #flatlaytips #flatlay allaboutgoodvibes.com IG @thevibescloset Molly Larsen Lifestyle blogger

Books and magazines are my number two source when it comes to flat lay photography, not only do they show beautiful photography but also provide details in them.

For magazines, I mostly look for color palettes and items that will go well as props in my photos.

For books, there are many of them on the market now that will teach you about how to style your flat lay photos. I have 4 books that I like and there are parts of them that teach you about flat lay photography.

#3 Source: Instagram

As much as I don’t use Instagram stalking people like how I use Facebook (LOL), I LOVE using Instagram as my inspiration source, connecting with all cool people and of course sharing my stories with you. It’s my third place to take a look when I’m running out of ideas.

Because instagram has so many people who’re sharing their passion through pictures, that would be a no brainer not to take a look around on this platform.

Here’s how I would recommend you to do.

#hashtag search

This is kind of similar to Pinterest, you can search #flatlay photos through hashtags like, #flatlay, #flatlays, #flatlaystyle, #flatlayforever, #flatlaytoday, #flatlayoftheday, #flatlaylove, #flatlaythenation and more.

I created a list of Flat Lay Hashtags and you can download it below.

Follow accounts and hashtags

After you are done searching for beautiful photo using #flatlay keywords, you should find some interesting accounts to follow now. I only follow people who truly inspire me. I recommend you to do the same. 🙂

You now have a choice to follow hashtags as well so take advantage of it and follow the hashtags you find that interests you most.

To those who were concerned about my health, THANK YOU so much for sending me Facebook & IG messages and emails asking about my pregnancy. I’m feeling amazingly great now after going to the labor and delivery the evening after Christmas to check on my early labor contractions I was having. I got a shot to help calm my uterus down and have been better since. Those two weeks break was a good help too. We have a few more weeks to go til we meet our new baby! I can’t wait to introduce our new addition of joy to you.

No more about me! Let’s get started with our topic today to help you get on track for your best year yet. I forgot to mention that you can apply these 3 tips with any new project, it doesn’t have to be only for the New Year.

The second the new year started, I felt the positive energy coming my way and even my husband could feel it too. Below are some tips on what we did a few days before the year ended.

Tip 1

Let go of the past and focus on the present

Holding on to the past will slow you down in every aspect of life. The best thing to do with it is to let it go and stay at your present moment. You don’t need to forget about your past completely but to only use it as your life lessons. Think about what you learned from it. Say thank you to your past that has taught you so many things and made you become who you are now. There’s no need to keep talking and/or thinking about it all the time. Just move on and do your best at your time now.

If you want, you can write down a list of your past that you’re holding on to. Then write what are the good lessons you learned from them. Write “Thank you” at the end of each one. Now it’s time for you to appreciate them and move on.

Practice Tip 1

It can be something like this:

I love when …. because…., thank you for ….. now I’m ready to move on.

Tip 2

Remember you can achieve anything in life

All success starts within YOU. If you believe in yourself and put your mind into whatever you do, you are already half way to your success. If you’re planning a new project, new daily routines, don’t think about obstacles you may face but instead imagine yourself already achieving your goal. How would you feel? Excited? Happy? So proud? Full of joy?

The best practice of this tip is to never, ever doubt your abilities or others who will be involved in your goals. The second you have doubt in you mind, you are so many steps further away from your achievements.

For example, if you want to improve your relationship with your friend/ partner, you should trust in both of your abilities, put the past aside, don’t think about obstacles, and only image what it would be like to have the best relationship ever.

Practice Tip 2

Now put this tips to practice by filling in the blanks below;

I believe and I know in my heart that I can …… . I would feel so ……. after I achieve……. . I am so grateful for my ability and others who are making this ….. happen. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Tip 3

Empower yourself with good books

My husband and I used this tip on New Year’s Eve night. We both got new books that inspired us in the areas that we’re looking to improve. Instead of watching movies, we read our new books until midnight in our bed. Same as our 3 years old daughter who got new books and was reading them to herself and us before she fell to sleep.

Books play a big role in self empowering. Especially the books that have other people’s stories or proven theories in it. If you get the right book on the right topic you’re looking for, that book can change your life or at least empower and direct you in the right direction.

I purchased about 30 new books toward the end of last year and the beginning of the new year within those two weeks of my days off and I almost finished my first two books. I’ve learned a lot this past week and I can’t wait to read more books to ensure and empower myself to the next level of me.

What had happened since my husband and I started reading our books before bed are:

  1. We learned something new that inspired us before going to bed.
  2. Our connection is stronger than before because we share our positive thoughts before we’re going to bed.
  3. We encourage and support each other with the areas we needed improvement.
  4. Talking freely and honestly with how we feel about each other.
  5. We are on the same page and willing to do whatever tasks to make us and our family happy.

Practice Tip 3

Answer these questions below to find out what type of book you should start the New Year with:

  1. What areas of life would you like to improve most?
  2. Do you like a book with theory, easy step-by-step guide, real life experience or all of them?
  3. Do you like to read or listen?
  4. Where can you get your book (audiobook) from?
  5. When will you get your book(s) and start your first page?

Now it’s time for you to get the right book and start empowering yourself.

Here are 5 books I recommend reading to start of your year (project) right.
